THE last remaining brownfield site in Great Somerford could soon be built on, as real estate developers announce plans for 41 homes.
Gleeson Developments Limited have applied for planning permission to build the homes on Broadfield Farm, a former commercial site which has been empty since 2015.
The site is the only brownfield plot – land which has already been built on – in the village, meaning if the plans are approved then future developments would have to built on previously untouched land.
Oliver Taylor, strategic land manager at Gleeson Developments Limited, believes the plans “are a natural step forward” for Great Somerford.
He continued: “The disused buildings on Broadfield Farm make it a natural site for redevelopment and one which we are confident the community are in favour of.
“The site has already been built on, in contrast to nearby greenfield sites.
“Our plans provide much-needed affordable homes for local people while protecting the precious greenfield space surrounding the village.
“Broadfield Farm is the only brownfield site in the parish, in contrast to the greenfield sites contained in the emerging Neighbourhood Plan.”
