COUNCILLOR Dilys Neill, of Cotswold District Council (CDC), who has been diagnosed with leukaemia, may be absent from her duties up until May 16.

Cllr Neill was elected to the council as ward member for Stow-on-the-Wold following a by-election on September 29, which took place after the death of former Councillor Barry Dare.

Shortly after her election, however, Cllr Neill was unexpectedly diagnosed with leukaemia.

At a CDC meeting on Tuesday, February 21, members decided to approve the continued absence of the councillor from meetings up until May 16.

Cllr Neill had hoped to make a full return to council business in the spring.

Having only just joined the council, Cllr Neill did not wish to stand down as a councillor.

She is currently undergoing treatment but has still been trying to undertake some council work online. Some of her duties are being covered by her fellow councillors.
