A MOTORIST was ordered by a court to pay £1,060 after contesting a speeding ticket issued in Lechlade – 10 times more than the original fine.
The 40-year-old man contested the offence, pleaded not guilty and requested a trial, though failed to turn up to two hearings and was convicted in his absence on Monday (February 20).
The magistrates ordered four points to be added to his driving licence and fined him £440.
They also ordered that the man, from Swindon, pay the CPS court costs of £620.
The ticket was issued by PC Stewart Liddle-Peters on Fairford Road in December 2015, after the man was caught driving at 43mph in a 30 zone.
A ticket, when uncontested, usually results in a Speed Awareness course or a fine and three points on the driver’s licence.
“PC Liddle-Peters faith in the Criminal Justice System is renewed,” tweeted Cotswold Police.
