TWO Swindon riders are taking part in the new French Speedway league which started last Saturday.

New signing Adam Ellis top-scored with 13 points as his side Lamothe-Landerron won away at near-neighbours Marmande 51-39.

Ellis has lived all of his life in Marmande in the French south west where his family run a couple of bars.

Other sides in the league include La Reole and Macon. With the exception of Macon, based near the Swiss border, the other sides are in the Bordeaux area which has been a major stronghold of long track and grass track racing for many years.

Fellow Robins newcomer David Bellego will ride for La Reole who were not in action last weekend. Sides will meet each other twice home and away in a 12-meeting league.

Elsewhere Purton-based Darryl Ritchings was named as captain of the third-tier Birmingham Brummies as they seek to retain the National League championship with what looks like a fairly inexperienced side.
