Cirencester League Div Two

Sherborne Harriers 0

Oaksey 3

OAKSEY overcame an early air of complacency before running out 3-0 winners at Div Two rivals Sherborne Harriers.

Oaksey had their chances but seemed to lack some grit and determination in a goalless and frustrating first half.

Lloyd Fincham, while kept busy, was not overly stretched but had luck on his side on 41 minutes when Mark Lane’s powerful shot from some 10 yards out was cleared off the line by one of his defenders.

The second half saw a different Oaksey side as they began to take the game to Sherborne but with more direction and cohesion.

George Blackah was moved up front and it was from his corner that his cousin Lane headed the opening goal on 70 minutes. Then Lane turned provider five minutes later and his pass found Blackah who unleashed a 25-yard blinder to double the lead.

Blackah made it 3-0 when he picked the ball up just inside Sherborne’s half and ran through the home defence before calmly lobbing the home 'keeper from 20 yards out.

The Oaksey defence, with stand-in 'keeper Tim Fry generally untroubled, dominated much of the game but it was dogged midfielder Sam Hainsworth whose industry and determination helped to ensure the three points went to the visitors.

For the stretched Sherborne side, cousins Harry and James Larner did much to prevent Oaksey adding to their three strikes.

Elsewhere in the Alexcars Junior Charities Cup qualifying games, group rivals Blunsdon and Kingshill both won but should Oaksey win this week at Ashton Keynes Reserves the side will qualify ahead of Kingshill on goal difference to face Sherston (probably) in the semi-final.

The game at Ashton Keynes could well be a banana skin of a match as Ashton’s only win this season was against Oaksey.
