TRIBUTES have been paid to a 30-year-old Stroud woman who was killed when her car hit a tree and burst into flames.

The woman, who has not yet been named by the authorities, died on Monday on the road between Avening and Tetbury after the Mini Cooper she was driving left the carriageway and crashed into a tree.

The tragedy occurred shortly before 12.30pm on the B4014/Tetbury Hill, close to the Chavenage turning.

Her next of kin and the coroner have been informed of the death.

Several witnesses to the crash rushed to the Mini to try to pull her from the wreckage before the car burst into flames, but apparently they were not able to rescue her.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash Flowers have been laid at the site of the crash, and members of the woman’s family were there yesterday to see the floral tributes and lay their own.

Dozens of people posted comments on Facebook to pay their respects to the popular young woman.

After the collision, the Mini kept re-igniting and so the fire crews were forced to close the road while they tackled the blaze.

A man who attempted to rescue the woman from the car immediately after the crash suffered minor injuries and was left in a state of shock, and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Several other motorists stopped at the scene to help and police officers want those people to come forward, even if they did not see the crash itself.

The B4014 between Avening and Tetbury remained closed until 9.30pm on Monday while police conducted a full collision investigation.
