A DAGLINGWORTH company hired to decontaminate a Scottish nursery after an E.coli outbreak hospitalised 14 people has been praised.
ER Environmental Services, which specialise in decontaminating children's nurseries and play areas, were called on to disinfect the Careshare Lauder Nursery in Dunfermline in May 2006 following an outbreak of the deadly virus.
Five children suffered haemolytic uraemic syndrome and nine other people became ill during the incident.
The company spent five days cleaning everything from floors to ceilings, furniture and even the children's toys.
It was closed for five weeks following the clean-up as health chiefs investigated the cause of the outbreak.
ER director Iain Stewart said: "It was extremely rewarding to achieve such low bacterial colony count once we had completed the task. We managed to obtain a lower count than required in an operating theatre ensuring the nursery was free of any dangerous bacteria and the children could return to a risk free environment.
"It was a major task which we were able to fulfil in view of our wide experience in hygiene projects in food establishments, cruise ships and hotels.
"It was quite a wake up call for everyone including me as a parent at the lack of hygiene resources available for professional carers and parents alike."
