A NEW town councillor, Emma Monks has been co-opted at Tetbury Town Council.

Emma, who was co-opted at a full council meeting on Monday, November 28, told councillors: "I am one of those people that throughout my life are always sat with friends saying: why doesn’t Tetbury do this or that? Then I thought I should do something or shut up.

"I think there are a couple of key issues that are going to get bigger and bigger. It worries me that for rural youth, there are not enough opportunities for work because if you lose the youth, the community dies.

"And with all these houses, we need some sustainable transportation because if some people are commuting and they need to get to Kemble, it is a hell hole when you can’t park anywhere."

Town councillor Colin Pearce addressed Emma, saying: "Good luck. It will be a challenge. We have to fight for everything we need in this town."

Deputy mayor Kevin Painter added: "I am interested to know what you will bring that is fresh to the table."
