AN award-winning farm shop near Cirencester has created a winter wonderland, complete with a Christmas tree forest and reindeer.

Jolly Nice, in Frampton Mansell, erected the 1,000-tree forest earlier this month, before welcoming reindeer for the day last Friday.

The shop, which includes an onsite butchery, kitchen and food hall, won Best Rural Start Up at this year’s Rural Business Awards, and also recently welcomed TV presenter Adam Henson to film an episode of Countryfile.

Simon Wilson, a Westonbirt farmer, opened the independent business three years ago with his wife Rebecca, who manages the shop.

“The trees were brought in from local growers in Gloucestershire, as well as Herefordshire and Hertfordshire,” said Rebecca.

“We selected the best growers because we wanted the best trees. We believe they are the highest quality at the lowest prices in Gloucestershire.”

She said the trees were brought to the site, having been grown for six to 10 years, and are fixed in place with steel rods to give the appearance of being planted.

“It’s a realistic, fake forest,” she said. “It provides an enchanting experience for families.”

The trees are for sale at 25 per cent off for those with a loyalty card.

Simon rears rare breed pigs, including Tamworth, Iron Age, Berkshire and Gloucestershire Old Spots, as well as rare breed shorthorn beef cattle, with the meat sold in the shop.
