TWO cars were overturned on the same icy patch of road in Little Somerford over the weekend.

Police responded to the two totally unrelated incidents on Clay Street on Sunday morning.

Wiltshire Police attended a number of other incidents on the county’s roads the same morning, thought to be related to dangerous road conditions due to the low temperatures.

Residents have reported that minor roads in the county had not been gritted over the weekend.

Wiltshire Winter, a Twitter account run by Wiltshire Council to inform residents about conditions, confirmed that only 25 per cent of county's roads were gritted on Saturday night.

Police have warned motorists to be careful while driving.

Philip Whitehead, cabinet member for highways at Wiltshire Council, said: "We have a dedicated team which works late into the evenings every year to grit Wiltshire roads, sometimes in very difficult conditions.

“Last night, we gritted all A and B roads and some C roads from 4pm – this equates to about 25% of the county's roads. We were also on standby throughout the night and this morning in case there were any issues.

“As ever, we always advise motorists to take care when it’s icy, never assume a road has been salted and always drive to the conditions.”
