STUDENTS celebrated the centenary year of influential author Roald Dahl with an "incredible" production of Matilda the Musical.

Cotswold School student Sam Pout, aged 18, devised and directed an abridged version of the show, which was applauded by audiences.

The show was just one aspect of the school's Roald Dahl celebrations, which also saw students dressing up as his well-loved characters and taking part in an inter-house performing arts competition.

On the show's final night Suzie Buckley, head of music, said: "Before the summer break, Mrs Monk (head of performing arts) and I approached Sam to ask if he would consider directing a piece for our Roald Dahl celebration.

"He jumped at the chance and taking on every aspect of the show - from casting to full direction - Sam has produced the incredible production you have enjoyed tonight. We are incredibly proud of him."

Mr Pout was cheered by his cast and crew, and thanked his cast, the musicians and technical team - pointing out that without them all, "the show would have been very boring!"
