SPEEDING motorists have been clocking speeds of up to 51mph in a 30 zone running through Brinkworth.

A recent speed check was carried out by members of Wiltshire Police, following concerns being raised about speeding through the village.

Elizabeth Threlfall, chairwoman of Brinkworth Parish Council, said she was glad to see the police were doing speed checks on the road.

“The road has been a concern for residents as it runs through the centre of the village,” she said.

“We are delighted the police are doing speed checks, it reminds people what they are doing.

“We are even more delighted that they are looking into mobile phone use while driving.”

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Driving with excessive speed is a concern for our communities.

“Following a number of complaints from the local area, community police teams spent time monitoring the speed of vehicles in 30mph limits.

“The high visibility of the teams proved to be a successful deterrent for potential speeding motorists as many cars reduced their speed significantly when they saw them.

“We would like to urge the public to remember that breaking the speed limit can not only cost points on your license, but can put lives at risk too.”
