A COLLISION which saw one car overturned and another severely disfigured near Cirencester last night was described as ‘horrible’ by a witness, who lost her parents in a similar crash one year ago.

The three-way crash at the Ewen junction of Spratsgate Lane resulted in one of the cars lying on its side on the grass bank at the side of the road, while police say a van was also involved.

The incident took place at 5.35pm but did not result in any casualties, with all passengers exiting their vehicles unharmed.

Carole Best, who was on the scene, lost her parents John and Kathleen Barnes, both 77 and from Fairford, following a road collision near Lechlade in September 2015, and said the incident ‘brought it all back’.

“I was on the scene just as it happened and got out of my car to take some pictures,” Carole told the Standard on Thursday (December 1) morning. “A white van was in front of me, so I didn’t see the exact moment of the collision but it was not nice to see.

“It brought it all back to when mum and dad were killed.”

Carole said she was on her way back to Cirencester from Ewen when she arrived at the scene, leaving just as emergency crews arrived.

She said: “Just seeing the car on its side and the debris in the road, it just looked exactly like my dad’s car. It looked the same as that, and obviously they didn’t live through it. You always think the worst. It was horrible.”

She said several motorists had got out their vehicles to try and assist those injured, as well as take photos.

Police say the drivers involved exchanged insurance details at the scene.

Mr and Mrs Barnes both died following a road collision on the A361 on their way back from a weekly bingo session, when a motorist, three times over the drink drive limit, collided with their car head on.
