  • THE pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs attracted full houses to all five performances last week. This traditional production with its cast of 39 players from all age groups in the village was a resounding success. Audience participation was loud and sustained and everyone enjoyed the excellence of the events. The only complaint heard was that the pantos are not held every year.
  • THE first major Yuletide event this year will be the Christmas tree festival in All Hallows Church starting at 6pm on Friday, December 9, with a preview evening with Ann Edwards School choir and the church hand-bell ringers entertaining those present. The festival continues on the Saturday, 10am-6pm, and Sunday, 11am-4pm, when the trees decorated by many organisations and clubs in the parish will be on show. Donations to the church funds and to the Garidipalli Day Centre in India will be welcomed.
  • CAROL singing around the Old Cross in the centre of the village will take place at 7pm on Monday, December 19. Everyone welcomed so wrap up warmly and bring a lantern, the best lantern will win a prize.
  • VILLAGE hall club meets next Friday, December 9, a week earlier than usual. This month’s entertainment will appeal to music lovers with a sense of humour, the show starts at 7.30pm with doors and licensed bar open at 7pm. New members and visitors welcomed, annual membership only £12.50 and visitors can be temporary members at £3 a visit.
  • COFFEEPOT will be in the United Church from 10am on Saturday, December 10, with the usual assortment of cakes, buns and biscuits to have with coffee or tea. No charge but donations to this year’s charity will be gratefully accepted.
  • RENOVATIONS of the composting bins at Upper Up are now almost completed by our team of volunteers and financed by the parish council. The soft garden waste material will now be stacked into the new bins with layers of the shredded woody stuff to set up several new batches of compost. We already have half a bin of finished compost ready for collection free of charge to anyone living in the parish. Take along your bags or containers and help yourself from bin eight, the furthest from the car park. Anyone willing to help with this worthwhile scheme can contact me for more information.
  • SEVERAL hedges are partly obstructing footpaths throughout the village. If you have one next to any footpaths or highways, please do check and cut back any that need attention.

  • PLANNING permission has been granted for a new porch on the front of the village hall, leaving the village hall trustees free to engage a builder with a view to starting construction in New Year. The porch will be on the front of the building, enhancing its appearance, and will become the main entrance to the hall. The current doors at the front of the hall, which will become internal doors, will also be replaced. Together with the new floor and the removal of the old partitioned area around the door, this will contribute to a lighter and more open area.
  • A FAMILY Service is at St Peter’s Church on Sunday, December 4, starting at 10am.
