Minchinhampton Rams 42

Minchinhampton Tups 37

A RAFT of former international rugby stars took part in a match for the right to win the signed match ball that marked Jason Leonard’s 100th cap for England.

And rugby legend Mike Tindall summoned former England team-mates Iain Balshaw and Andy Beattie to take part in the battle of Minchinhampton, which was refereed by Gloucester legend Nick Wood.

Earlier, a minute's silence was observed for the passing of former Ireland international Anthony 'Axel' Foley.

Tindall and Beattie appreciated the stealthy passes from Clive Eagles to allow the Rams' eclectic backs to run fluidly and freely towards the Tups try line to opening the scoring.

The Tups regrouped and with Stu Allen giving guidance to Balshaw and Ben Read, Clay went over to score his first try ever.

With much at stake, referee Wood kept a keen eye on both subtle and blatant infringements from both teams and presided with aplomb.

Radcliffe and Denning both bagged a brace and Powell glided over ahead of the half-time break. The fresh-legs of sub Lee Tim brought the scores level at seven tries apiece. However, the Tups were on course to claim an inaugural victory when a teasing grubber kick rolled agonisingly over the dead ball line.

Beattie seized the opportunity and tore upfield to set up the winner.
