AN 'air weapon' was used to smash a train window on Saturday afternoon as it passed through the Upper Minety area.
A window on a train was said to have been smashed at around 3pm.
The incident resulted in a number of trains being cancelled that day, with knock-on delays to other services.
British Transport Police officers searched the area around the Minety Crossing where the incident took place, however no arrests were subsequently made.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said they responded after the train driver reported something had been thrown through the window of the train.
Officers are now working to establish the circumstances of the incident and police are looking to two teenagers in connection with the incident.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “At 2.58pm on Saturday, October 22, an object hit the window of a train near Upper Minety causing it to smash.
“This led to the train being cancelled with a further two trains part cancelled. In total the incident caused delays to seven services with a combined delay time of 44 minutes.”
There are no reports of injuries to any passengers at this time.
