COTSWOLD District Council is to receive multiple awards for their toilets in the Loo of the Year competition.

The district will be awarded platinum awards for loos in Bourton-on-the-Water (Church Rooms), Bibury (The Street) and Cirencester (Forum car park) and a gold award for the toilet facilities at the Rissington Road in Bourton-on-the-Water.

West Oxfordshire District Council will also be receiving four platinum awards for their toilets.

The two neighbouring authorities work in partnership across many functions, and use the same contractor, Healthmatic, to maintain their public conveniences.

These awards ensure that both councils will qualify for a Champions League Standards of Excellence awards at this year’s Loo of the Year ceremony which will take place at St Johns Hotel, Solihull on Friday, December 2.

Cotswold’s cabinet member for enterprise and partnerships, Cllr Chris Hancock, welcomed the news: “We did very well last year when we won two platinum and two gold awards so moving higher up the Premier Loo League with three platinum awards is a notable achievement.

"I am also pleased that our partner council in West Oxfordshire did so well in gaining four platinums. Together with our three platinums and one gold you could say that we have achieved far beyond a Royal Flush!

“Many local authorities are reducing their provision of public conveniences but we see maintaining – and improving – our facilities as more than a wee priority.”
