FIVE Northleach dads held a charity Indie disco earlier this month, after finding they were too old for the regular club scene.

With DJ Roop on the decks, fresh from performing at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, more than 80 partygoers attended on Saturday, October 15 and raised over £850 for Northleach Swimming Pool.

Mark Tennant, 46, was one of the organisers of Step On: Northleach Indie Night 2016, held at the village’s Westwoods Centre, and said the event had been inspired by a less than satisfactory ‘boys weekend away’ in Glasgow in March.

“We decided to head up to Glasgow for a bit of a boys weekend away to go to some of my old haunts, especially the Indie bars,” said Mark, who is originally from the Scottish city.

“We quickly realised everyone was about 18 or 19 and we looked like granddads out to collect our grandkids.”

Big fans of the likes of the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, and all aged between 40 and 50, Mark said on the journey back to Northleach, the friends decided to hold their own night with music from the late 80s and early 90s.

He said a barmaid in one of the clubs they visited during their trip had guessed their combined ages as 360, with ‘Club 360’ becoming their unofficial team name.

“We met up here and there at people’s homes and in the local pubs, coming up with the logistics for the gig,” said Mark.

“Then once the kids all went back to school after summer, that’s when we ramped up the planning.”

He said they quickly secured the venue, while DJ Roop was a friend of one of the group, and happy to get involved.

“After that it was coming up with the playlist,” said Mark, “and deciding on a local charity to donate the money to.”

Northleach Swimming Pool was selected as it is somewhere they had often all taken their children.

Referring to the night itself, Mark said it was ‘fantastic’.

“DJ Roop used lasers and did a great job. We got a few volunteers to help set up on the night.

“We’re looking at doing another one in one or two years’ time. Probably a more Old School night,” he added.
