A WRITER from Tetbury is hoping to raise enough funds to publish a book about civilisations lost to the sea and to European history thousands of years ago.

Ri Ferrier has launched a Kickstarter Campaign for her upcoming book 'The Drowned Lands - Echoes of a Lost People'.

Ri will be writing about an area called Doggerland, an area which joined the UK with mainland Europe more than 8000 years ago and where tens of thousands of people were believed to have lived.

Archaeologists have discovered that there were a number of catastrophic events which led to the demise of the people who lived on Doggerland.

About 8200 years ago, there was a sharp change in temperature, rising sea levels and the largest tsunami the world had ever seen.

This chain of events made the UK the island it is today.

Ri said: “I’ve had recurring dreams of rising sea levels and tsunamis so when I read about Doggerland I felt immediately called to write the story of those lost to the ocean.

"There may be lessons to be learnt from the fate of Doggerland but the key for me is that we remember those lost.”

The Kickstarter Campaign is to write an adult work of fiction. To support Ri, visit her Kickstarter page here.
