A FUNDRAISER from Tetbury drove 2,100 to Italy and back, in a mock-up Jurassic Park car, dressed in an eight-foot tall inflatable T-Rex costume.

William Lamour, general manager at Pebley Beach, took on the Bangers for Ben charity drive

The event involves participants buying cars for less than £750 and meeting at Dover, before tackling the drive down to the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy.

William picked up a 2001 Mini Cooper for £500 which he painted to look like the famous Jeeps from the original Jurassic Park film.

The car, which already had more than 100,000 miles on the clock, completed the entire challenge without any problems, while other vehicles wilted, one of which had to make the entire return leg in fourth gear.

“The car ran perfectly the whole time, though you’re constantly on tenterhooks, scared the car is about to drop off,” he said.

“We had beautiful weather driving over the Alps both ways, we were very lucky.”

The event is in aid of Ben, an automotive charity which helps support people in the industry.

The 40 teams that took on the challenge have raised a total of £40,000 already, with the cars all being auctioned off in London later this month to add to the total.

William says he’s not looking forward to giving up the car.

“I’m still driving it around now and intend to keep driving it until it has to go,” he said.

“I’ve become quite attached.”
