  • HOLY Communion this Sunday, October 2 at 9am at St Anne’s Whelford led by Rev Curwen Rawlinson and Holy Communion 10am at St Mary’s Kempsford led by Rev Jonathan Clark, Curate of Lechlade.
  • COMMUNITY First Responders (CFR) are volunteers who support their local community by attending emergency calls ahead of an ambulance. The next training course for this is on October 1 and 2. The local group, which covers an area from Lechlade, Fairford and Kempsford, meets monthly. If you are interested, please contact Stephen Andrews at andrews@btinternet.com or call 07795915902.
  • KEMPSFORD and Whelford’s Thursday Club is looking for volunteers to help at the fortnightly meetings in Castle Eaton village hall. The volunteers need to be willing to provide some food for the members. If you are able to help please contact Pat Crew on 01285 810338 for more infromation and details. New members are always welcome.

  •  THE annual MacMillan Coffee Morning will be held at Fairford Bowls Club on Friday, September 30 from 10am till noon. 
  • THE Coffee Post, Fairford Market Place, is also supporting MacMillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Eat cake and drink coffee from 9am till noon on Friday, September 30.
  • FARMOR’S School open evening is on Thursday, September 29 between 5pm and 8pm. Talks at 5.30pm and 6.30pm. No need to book, just turn up on the evening. There are also open mornings on Monday and Tuesday, October 3 and 4 at 9.10am; 9.25am; 10.15am and 10.30am. Booking for these is essential and you should call 01285 712302 to book an appointment.
  • THERE will be a musical evening in aid of Xavier Project on Saturday, October 1 at 7pm in St Mary’s Church, Fairford. This promises to be an evening of exquisite music, featuring an outstanding trio: Marije Vijselaar (harp); Polly Elena Armitage (flute) and Giles Francis (viola). The concert is entitled “Après Un Rêve” and will include works by Debussy, Saint-Saens, Vaughan Williams and Elgar. The Xavier Project provides educational opportunities for refugees from mainly the Congo, South Sudan and Somalia, who come to Kenya and Uganda. Tickets £20 (£15 for under 18s) to include a glass of wine during the interval and are available from c.page@xavierproject.org. 
  • JAM (Jesus and Me) Club is on Sunday, October 2 at 10am in St Mary’s Church, Fairford. Stories, craft and fun. 
  • THE Knit & Knatter Group’s next meeting is between 2.30-4.30pm on Tuesday, October 4 in Fairford Library. A free group for people of all ages and abilities, who want to do some knitting or crocheting and have a chat with old and new friends. Tea and coffee. Children welcome.   • MINI Praise at St Mary’s Church, Fairford is on Thursday, October 6 at 1.45pm for pre-schoolers and their carers. A free session with stories, songs, crafts, and snacks.

  • DR VICTORIA Edwards OBE has been appointed the new chief executive of the Ernest Cook Trust (ECT) and will replace Nicholas Ford, who has been the CEO at the ECT’s office in Fairford for over 14 years. Dr Edwards is a rural chartered surveyor and academic and is currently Associate Professor and Rural Programmes Director at the University of Reading’s Henley Business School. She has also been a Trustee of the Ernest Cook Trust since November, 2007 and has resigned from the board in order to take the job. She takes over on October 1 following Nicholas Ford’s retirement.
  • EXPLORER Scouts for young people aged between 14 and 18 meet every other week on Monday nights from 7.30pm till 9.30pm term time at Fairford Scout Hut, Totterdown Lane with the added bonus of joining Cirencester Scouts on the alternate weeks. Contact scouts.org.uk/get-involved/groups/1st-fairford#&panel101.
  • FROM the end of September, Hilary Cottage Surgery will offer appointments for patients to receive the annual flu vaccine. Those patients are those aged 65 and over; pregnant women; immuno-suppressed patients; all those suffering from chronic heart disease, kidney failure, liver failure, chronic respiratory disease, asthma, diabetes, previous stroke or carers in receipt of carer’s allowance or on the carer’s register. All children entitled to a flu vaccination will receive an invite letter.   • THE Lechlade Neighbourhood Plan Referendum is on October 13 in the Pavilion from 7am-10pm. This is the opportunity for the people of Lechlade to vote whether to adopt the plan as a legal document to be used in determining future planning applications in the town. There is a copy of the Neighbourhood Plan in the library and you can also access it at cotswold.gov.uk/neighbourhoodplanning/consultations.
  • LITTLE Lights baby and pre-school informal service is in St Lawrence Church Lechlade, followed by tea, craft activity, toys and chat. New babies are very welcome. No charge. Just turn up.
