A CIRENCESTER man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after an attempted break-in at Chedworth Roman Villa.
Police were called at 12.45am this morning after reports of a man attempting to break into the National Trust’s popular conservation site, one of the biggest Roman villas in Britain.
Officers with a police dog quickly attended and spotted a suspicious vehicle parked at the site.
One officer stayed with the vehicle whilst the other tracked the offender’s trail with the police dog.
The offender was later traced nearby and arrested.
A bag of tools were also found.
A 34-year-old man from Cirencester remains in police custody for questioning.
