A GOLFER who took part in the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month then made a surprise visit to Cirencester last week.
Marcus Fraser was on his way back to his native Australia when he decided to make a slight 5,784-mile detour to the Cotswolds to pick-up some new kit.
The 38-year-old pro, ranked at number 86 in the world, took part in The Open Championship last year before winning the Maybank Championship Malaysia in February.
In the summer he became one of the first golfers to compete at the Olympics for 120 years, finishing four places behind British winner Justin Rose.
Marcus picked up his new on-course kit from Cirencester tailors Barrington Ayre, becoming the first golfer to wear specifically designed clothing by the firm.
“It was a bit of a surprise to get the call to say he was stopping off to see us,” explained Barrington Ayre owner Tom Wharton. “Marcus was leading the tournament for the first two days and we were of course cheering for him but it was a great result for Team GB with Justin getting the gold.”
