SIX cars in Cirencester are believed to have been scratched by a teenage boy last week.

The cars were vandalised at about 6.20pm on Thursday, August 18 on Watermoor Road.

Three of the vehicles were a Mini Clubman, a Skoda and an Audi TT.

The offender is thought to be a 13-year-old boy who was in company of two girls. The boy is thought to have been identified by police.

The incident was caught on CCTV by a concerned resident who put up camera surveillance by their home after their cars and their neighbours' cars were scratched earlier this year.

No culprit was found on that occasion.

The resident said: "As neighbours, we were quite frustrated.

"Scratching cars is not a victimless crime. Think about insurance premium and the cost of repairs. In the interests of crime prevention, we set up a camera.

"When six more cars were scratched on Thursday, we reviewed our camera footage. We gave the footage to police and they acted upon it.

"My family are victims of this damage, as are my neighbours."

Another resident who had her car vandalised said that it would cost her £300 to £500 to repair the damage.

Cirencester Town Councillor Jenny Hincks, representing the Watermoor ward, said that it was sad that cars were being damaged and that this was the second incident in the area this year.

She said: "Damaging vehicles is a crime. I hope whoever is responsible will be dealt with by police.

"It could also affect car insurance, for example, everyone's premium could go up."
