A TALENTED father and daughter pair from Somerford Keynes will be exhibiting their artwork at New Brewery Arts in Cirencester.

Artists Nick Handover, 74, and Suzi Harris, 48, will be displaying their work at the art centre’s pop-up gallery from September 6 to 18.

Nick, a retiree who has lived in the Cotswolds since 1968, spends much of his time painting landscapes, seascapes and Cotswold scenery, working primarily with oil and water paints.

His eldest daughter, Suzi, who earns her living as a landlord in the Cotswolds, lives on a boat with her dog in Gran Canaria, Spain, where she spends some of her time drawing wildlife and animals with charcoal.

Last year in April, Nick, together with Suzi and his youngest daughter Lucinda, held an exhibition at Somerford Keynes.

When asked where the family’s love for art came from, Nick said: “My grandfather. He had leanings that way and spent a lot of his spare time painting.”

Though Nick does not specifically set out to sell his pictures, he holds one exhibition a year, displaying a range of artwork he has been working on over the past 12 months.

His work is inspired by colour and the different moods of the countryside, seascapes and boats.

Nick said: “It is the movement and colour that inspires me to paint. I love trees and harbours and things which are down to nature. I don’t do much of people and portraits.”

He described his daughter as an “exceedingly talented” artist, and said of her work: “She likes challenging herself. In one of her pieces, the quality of work around the face of an owl and its eyes is stunning.”
