  • AS PART of the Big Friendly Read programme of events at Fairford Library, there will be story time and songs on Thursday, August 25, from 10-10.30am for 4+ years and between 11.15-11.45am, there will be Roald Dahl story time.   • LIZ Coe, who runs the Fairford beauty clinic Face Beauty Company, is passionate about helping to save the animals that are being abused and killed for the meat trade in Asia. In order to raise money for this cause, Liz plans to open her clinic one Saturday per month, treatments will be discounted by 10% with 100% of the money taken on that day going to the charity run by local woman, Helen Reed. Helen has already rescued 200 dogs but needs funding to ship these dogs to the UK and re-home them. Discounted treatments will be available on Saturday, August 27, and Saturday, September 24. Find out more from info@facebeautycompany.co.uk.

  • LECHLADE’S popular serenade and sandwiches series continues with a piano recital by Maiko Mori, one of Japan’s most distinguished musicians. The international prize winning pianist will play Beethoven’s Sonata in C sharp minor, Op. 27-2 “Moonlight,” John Ireland’s Chelsea Reach and Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit I. Ondine II. Le Gibet III. Scarbo. The concert will be on Friday, September 9, at noon in St Lawrence Church. Entry is free, as is wine and lunch. There will be a chance to talk to Maiko over lunch and donations will be sought in aid of the church restoration and maintenance appeal. The event organiser said: “Maiko is a most distinguished musician who has played in international concerts and appeared on BBC Radio 3. “We are delighted that, as part of a short visit to the Cotswolds, she is playing for us in Lechlade.”
  • THE Art Society will be holding its annual exhibition thanks to being able to hire the function room at the New Inn. It will run from Friday, August 26 to Tuesday, August 30.
  • A HOG roast and pop-up fete is being organised on Saturday, September 10 from 2-5pm on the recreation ground to raise funds for the rebuilding of the Memorial Hall. The organisers are running a plant stall and have asked the gardening club if our members could donate plants and help to raise some money for this very worthy cause. Do you have any spare plants or seedlings? If you have, please call Tim Yeoman on 01367 252474. Tim will be happy to accept plants before the fete or may be able to collect them. Otherwise, please take along any donations on the day.
  • THE next library children’s activity will be ‘chocolate factory fun’ consisting of activities, craft & cake decorating for accompanied 4-11 year olds. It will be on Wednesday, August 24 from 10.30-noon, no booking required, just turn up on the day.
