  • TOMORROW, Friday, July 29, as part of their ongoing fundraising, the Tetbury Tesco store is holding a book sale and nearly-new sale at the front of the store to raise funds for their charity partnership diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation. Please do pop along to support these very worthwhile charities.
  • TETBURY Town Council invites you to meet the Mayor Councillor Stephen Hirst, under the Market Hall from 10am-12pm. Refreshments will also be available.
  • CONTINUING the celebration of 100 years of the world’s favourite storyteller Roald Dahl, next week’s GLORIUMPTIOUS themed event will be WIZZPOPING WORDS when all you have to do is choose an onomatopoeia word (or even make up your own!) and turn it into pop art. This is one of the themed events that will be going on throughout the summer holidays as part of the summer reading challenge were any young readers (up to the age of 11) can enjoy a six book reading challenge and collect goodies along the way. And when you pop along to the library, grown-ups and children alike have already marvelled at the amazing work that the library staff have done in transforming the library into the amazing world of Roald Dahl.
  • THE sixth Tetbury open gardens day will be on Sunday, July 31, from 2pm-6pm. Tickets cost £5 giving entry to all nine gardens; four of which are open to the general public for the first time. Tickets can be bought on the day, from any of the gardens or from the Market House where the maps will be provided. Refreshments and home-made cakes will be served at the Market House from 1.30pm. 
  • THE Police open surgery times for August are: Friday, August 5 (12-1pm), Wednesday, August 10 (2-3pm), Tuesday, August 16 (9-10am), Thursday, August 25 (1-2pm) and Tuesday, August 30 (2-3pm). There will be a local officer available for any member of the public to drop in and discuss any matters, whether it be formal  or informal or even just seeking a bit of friendly advice. These meetings take place at Tetbury Town Council  Offices, The Old Courthouse, 63 Long Street. There was a slight rise in crime figures last month. Local officers would like to remind the public that with the changing weather and summer holidays, police need to made aware of any antisocial behaviour.
  • TETBURY community choir are seeking more male singers, tenors, baritones etc. The choir has gone from strength to strength since Richard George took over as musical director. However, this is mainly ladies so sopranos and altos outnumber the gentlemen by six to one. And due to the popularity of the choir they have even had to find a larger venue and are currently using the church. If you would like more information, then please telephone Margaret Foster on 01666 577535 or email fossnmags@tiscali.co.uk. It makes no difference on the level you think you  can sing, as the emphasis is on community and enjoyment. Margaret and her team are so friendly and have such a fun time as well as producing fantastic music.
  • THE Friends of St Mary’s Church in Tetbury are hosting an open day from 2pm on August 7. This is an ideal opportunity to marvel in the splendour of this magnificent church and have a tour of the church tower. You would be escorted  at the 52 steps to the ringing chamber where you’ll be given  a demonstration of bellringing and even the opportunity to pull bell rope. Then if you wish you will be led up a further 52 narrow steps to the top of the tower were the most breathtaking view of Tetbury. The last tour will start at approximately 4.20pm. Adults £5, under-16s £1 (children must be over eight years old and accompanied by an adult). Tours are free to Friends of St Mary’s. There will be cream teas available throughout the afternoon. Evening prayer at 6pm.

  • EVERYONE is welcome to the RAU beagles open day from 1pm on Sunday, July 31, at the Kennels in Coates. Learn how to show hounds and join in a beagles walkout around 3pm. All ages are welcome. BBQ, bar and face painting and hound puppy cuddles available. 
  • THE mobile library will be visiting Coates between 11.55am-12.55pm on Tuesday, August 2.
  • THE police are holding an open meeting at South Cerney Village Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday, August 2. All are welcome to go along and raise anything about community policing to discuss with the local police officer.

  • THE next brick club meeting is tomorrow in the British School Room, 5.30-6.30pm for reception up to age eight and 6.30-8pm for age eight and upwards.
  • THEATRE club members head off today to the New London Theatre in Drury Lane, London, to see Show Boat. On Friday, August 5 their destination is Blenheim Palace to visit BBC Countryfile Live.
