THE BIG Feastival has this year appointed six local children to join the executive board and help oversee and influence decisions.

The family festival will be taking place on the bank holiday weekend from August 26 to 28, at Blur star Alex James' farm in Kingham.

Child Executive Officers (CEOs), aged six to eight, from Bledington Primary School near the Kingham.

After receiving a tour of the Feastival site, learning where all the stages would be and the design for the festivities, the CEOs attended a mini-board meeting chaired by Mr James.

The CEOs made decisions as to how the festival should inject more 'fun' and go about celebrating its fifth birthday.

Such decisions included an giant chocolate cake and the possibility of having water fights.

Mr James, however, said of the idea of water fights: "I have a feeling it might be a health and safety nightmare, but I'm working on it.

“Each year we welcome thousands of kids to The Big Feastival, along with their parents, and they are never short of an opinion on their favourite and not-so-favourite elements of the festival.

"This year we decided we’d get them involved early on.

"It’s great seeing the kids’ excitement. Kids are so unsatisfied with the constraints of reality and they have really good ideas. I run everything past them to see how they react.

"It’s really good to get the local community involved, I couldn’t do it without their full backing."

After the meeting, the CEOs and their families were invited back to the farm as Alex’s guests to enjoy The Big Feastival and see their decisions in practice.

The festival, a favourite with families and foodies, already has an outstanding musical line up, including Mark Ronson (DJ Set), Tinie Tempah, Kaiser Chiefs, Foxes, DJ Fresh, Ella Henderson and Roisin Murphy.

According to Mr James there was also a "stellar" line-up of the world’s best chefs including Raymond Blanc, Tom Kerridge and Jamie Oliver.

Family entertainment includes Dick and Dom, CBeebies Superstar Justin Fletcher, Reggie n Bollie, Twirlywoos, Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park, Baby Loves Disco, Skinny Jean Gardeners and more.
