A MOTORCYCLIST and his passenger suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash on the A417 yesterday evening.

Gloucestershire police are appealing for witnesses to a serious injury road traffic collision that occurred at about 6.13pm yesterday on the A417, Crickley Hill near the Air Balloon roundabout.

The collision involved a white Laverda motorcycle which was travelling uphill and a red and white articulated heavy goods vehicle that was travelling downhill.

The rider and pillion passenger of the motorcycle, a 53-year-old man and 49-year-old woman, both from the Gloucester area, were treated at the scene by paramedics and air ambulance staff, prior to being transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where they remain in a critical condition.

The lorry driver, a 33-year-old man from Tewkesbury, was shaken but uninjured.

The road was closed for nine hours during which officers from the Tri-Force Specialist Operations Collaboration unit carried out a detailed investigation.
