RECORD numbers braved the variable weather in Northleach for a popular annual festival.

This year, the Northleach Charter Fair and Music Festival welcomed back the popular annual parade which has been absent for several years, in what was hailed as a huge success with large sums of money raised for local charities and businesses.

The returning parade, organised by Emily Hartnell of the Northleach Brownies, provided a lively and fitting opening to the fair last Saturday(25), with the participation of local children.

Sam Freemantle, of the Northleach Steam & Vintage Show, led the parade around King George V Field on his vintage tractor.

Throughout the day and evening, the rain failed to dampen the spirits of those attending and in addition to the stalls and funfair, crowds enjoyed varied entertainment including the Northleach Choir, Cheltenham Ballroom Dancers and a Dog Agility Show.

The Music Festival itself showcased some top bands including headliners, The Bridge.

Linda Seaton, chairman of the Charter Fair organising committee, said: “While the weather in the days leading up to the fair and on the day itself resulted in many challenges, we were delighted that it did not deter people from supporting the fair and the festival.

“We were particularly pleased to see some old favourites returning such as the parade and Welly Walk and hope that they will again become established fixtures.

“We would like to thank everyone who volunteered to help and contributed so much to the day’s success.”
