CHILDREN'S right to play will be championed by Cirencester Town Council and community organisation World Jungle.

The partnership aims to develop a play strategy to improve play opportunities for young people.

Over the summer, the council will be looking to collect the views of children and young people to feed into the strategy which will set out the priorities and actions for improving play opportunities in the town.

Martin Conyers from Cirencester Town Council said: “We want children and young people in Cirencester to be able to take part and enjoy play in all its forms in their local communities.

"We recognise how important play is to children and how for many children opportunities to play outside have been severely restricted in recent years due to issues such as traffic and fears of stranger danger.”

The consultation team will be attending a number of events from World Jungle’s summer activity programme in July and August, talking to children and young people and collecting their ideas and thoughts on play.

Look out for them at the following events and activities:

  • Circus Fun in the Park (Love Parks Week) on Tuesday, July 26m 1pm to 3.30pm in Abbey Grounds
  • Celebrating National Playday at St Michael's Park on Wednesday, August 3, 1pm to 4pm
  • Scooter Jam on Friday, August 5, 1pm to 4pm at Kingshill, Cirencester in partnership with the Ozone
  • Scratch and Skate Cirencester on Sunday August 7

Full details of these events and others during the school summer holidays across the Cotswolds can be found on the World Jungle website at www.worldjungle.org.uk.
