COTSWOLD MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown congratulated Teacher of the Year Colin Davies, saying that pupils had "enormous regard" for the "dedicated teacher".

Mr Clifton-Brown visited Sir William Romney's School in Tetbury on Friday, June 17, to meet the art teacher who won the Standard's Teacher of the Year competition.

The Cotswold MP said: “I was really pleased to have the opportunity to visit Sir William Romney School in Tetbury and have a photograph with Colin Davies for the Wilts and Glos Standard nominated Teacher of the Year.

“It was clear from the pupils in his class whom I briefly met that they have an enormous regard for him and the head teacher Steven Mackay said that the award was thoroughly well deserved as he was a really dedicated teacher.”

The head of art at Sir William Romney's won the competition with 255 votes, followed by runner-up Hannah Clark of Cirencester College.

Earlier this month, on June 9, the Standard, along with headteacher Steven MacKay, surprised Mr Davies with his trophy as he was teaching a year eight art class.

Mr MacKay congratulated Mr Davies, saying: "We are a small school and to be nominated in the first place is a real honour.

"I've known Mr Davies for eight years. He's been an exceptional teacher and you're really lucky to have him.

"I know many of you are going to be picking the subject at GCSE because of your art teacher and that says it all."

Mr Davies, 36, from Gloucester, has been teaching for nearly 12 years at the 11-16 school where he landed his first teaching post and where he was trained.

He also leads the design and technology, and music departments as faculty head.
