AFTER England crashed out of Euro 2016 last night, the Standard took to the streets of Cirencester to gauge the mood in the town.

England were knocked-out of the competition by a shock 2-1 handed down by minnows Iceland as the Scandinavian team’s unlikely success story continued in Nice.

The defeat was swiftly followed by England manager Roy Hodgson's inevitable resignation.

Rachel King ventured into Cirencester town centre this morning to ask residents how they felt about the all too familiar fashion of England's tournament exit and somewhat surprisingly, nobody seemed to be too downcast by what some pundits called the worst result in the national team's history.

First to register his feelings was Mike, who congratulated Iceland on their performance rather than criticise England. He said: “I’m not surprised, Iceland did well”

His thoughts were largely echoed by Mick Hughes, who added: “I'm not surprised, we have very ordinary players. Rooney is totally overrated.”

And of course one nation's moment of misery, has others skipping with joy, such as David, who simply said: “I'm Happy, I’m Welsh.”

Finally, Chris Wieldon maybe will be feeling best of all after the defeat, saying: “I am not very bothered because I’m not that interested in football.”
