AN EIGHTEEN-year-old from Farmor’s School will be starting out a career in finance in Zurich after graduating this summer.

Finlay McLellan, of Victoria Road, Cirencester, will be joining the deVere Group in Switzerland as a junior wealth manager in August.

Finlay, who studied A Level business, psychology and English, was offered the job after corresponding with his future boss, Richard Kemp, who came into the school for a talk.

When asked what he felt about starting the new job, he said: “Excited. It seems quite rewarding, helping people save money and making their lives easier.

“It seemed like something I would do and something I can be successful in. I’d also save myself £9,000 of university fees.”

Speaking of why he believed he was offered the job, he said: “It seems like a job where you have to be sure and confident about yourself. You need a strong personality and you need to work hard.”

“People have this perception of having to go to university otherwise no one will look at you, but there is a way of being successful without doing normal path of getting a university degree.”

As junior wealth manager, Finlay will be helping sell the services of his boss Richard.

He said of his move to Switzerland: “I’m a bit nervous. It’s natural as I am getting away from friends and family, and I am going to be all by myself.

“But I’ve always wanted to see the world and I done quite a lot of travelling already. It’ll be a new country with new opportunities.

Finlay’s plans are to see how many qualifications he can within a year in the financial sector. He also said that he would consider studying at university if it would benefit him after gaining some experience.

Ultimately, however, Finlay plans to become successful in terms of being financially independent and able to start a family.

He added that he hoped the international reach of the deVere Group would enable him to live in the United States sometime in the future.
