A SAILING club between Fairford and Lechlade held a special taster day on Saturday (May 21) to take potential members out on one of the lakes in the Cotswold Water Park by instructors.

The ‘Push the Boat Out Day’ – which took place between 10.30am and 3.30pm – also saw those interested in joining Bowmoor Sailing Club have the chance to chat to current members and find out more about sailing, windsurfing, open water swimming, paddle boarding, RC boats and canoeing.

People of all ages from across the Cotswolds came on the day to try their hand at different types of sailing, under the watchful eye of club commodore John Banbrook and his team.

The day was also an opportunity for the club to raise money for charitable cause Sail4Cancer, with cakes having been donated and sold to those in attendance.

Emily Watson, club publicity officer, in charge of organising the day, said: "We have been running the come and try days at Bowmoor Sailing Club for a number of years now, and it has proven a great way to introduce people to such a fantastic sport. Last weekend was no exception, with a great turn out, even with the inclement weather.

"We also managed to raise £200 for the charity Sail4Cancer, through our cake bake."

The club is a Royal Yachting Association-recognised teaching establishment, running dinghy, powerboat and marine radio courses, as well as hosting racing days.
