PREPARATIONS are well underway for the annual South Cerney Street Fair, with the stage in the All Hallows Church vicarage garden having been erected earlier this week.
The fair, to be held on Bank Holiday Monday (May 30), comes at the end of a full weekend of activities from Friday (27), including a cycle event, big band performance and family barn dance in the village, just outside Cirencester.
First started by the church over 30 years ago, the street fair draws the whole community together every May in addition to supporting the work of the church itself, and providing opportunities for local organisations and charities to raise funds.
The Duck Race, a major part of the weekend, regularly raises money for local children’s and youth organisations, while there will also be a performance from the Stroud Morris Dancers and Cirencester Creative Dance Academy, as well as a Butts Farm petting corner, go-karts and a pig roast.
Organisers have warned that Clarks Hay, Silver Street, School Lane, Church Lane and Bow Wow will be closed to all traffic, except emergency vehicles, from 8am to 8pm on Bank Holiday Monday.
In addition, a no parking restriction is in effect from midnight on Sunday 29 to 8pm on Monday 30 on the roads named above, as well as Northmoor Lane, High Street and Station Road.
