  • THE appeal for St Mary’s Church organ refurbishments continues to prosper and the fundraisers are now well over half way towards their target of £40k. All fundraising events have been well supported and enjoyed. The talk on the Falkland Islands and Antarctica by Mike Godsal in February was much appreciated. Thanks to the baker at the Wednesday Market, who kindly donated excellent bread rolls and to Heather for her delicious soup. The Tunisian Evening at the beginning of the month and sponsored by Colosseo Ristorante was excellent. Further events are planned but, in the meantime, if you were married in St Mary’s Church or have had your children christened there, would you like to donate to the Church Organ Appeal in order to preserve part of Fairford’s history? If so, then please donate online via Charities Aid Foundation at: cafdonate.cafonline.org / donatesteps.aspx?beneficiarycampaignid =4637 or leave a donation in the Parish Office (upstairs in the Community Centre).

  • HELEN Hooker with Rosemary Robinson and the Helenettes Recorder Ensemble form Helen and the Henettes. The first Helen and the Helenettes concert took place in 2014, and was a musical success story, which attracted a large audience so it is now an annual event. This year’s event is in St George’s Church, Church Green, Kencot, Nr Lechlade, GL7 3QX at 7.30 pm on Saturday, June 18. Each concert is built around that very fine recorder player Helen Hooker, who is accompanied on the spinet by the excellent Rosemary Robinson in music by some of the giants of the recorder repertoire. Helen and Rosemary are also joined by the Helenettes Recorder Ensemble in a wide selection of music for recorder ensemble, including a concerto for bass recorder by Steve Marshall. Tickets £10 and can be purchased at the door, but St George’s is not a large venue, and so it may be preferable to buy tickets in advance. A cheque for £10 per ticket can be sent to Ann Marshall (and payable to Ann) or pay online (mayhill.co.uk/wpn/courses/helen-and-the-helenettes). In either case your ticket(s) will be held on the door, or posted to you if you wish. Ann’s contact details are: ann@mayhill.co.uk 01452 831654 Colemans Cottage, May Hill, Longhope GL17 0NP.
