  • THE South Cerney Gardening Club meets this evening Thursday, May 5 with Jan Broadway talking on From Florists, Feasts to Gardening Club. The Club meets in the United Church instead of the village hall which is being used for the election of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
  • SCHEDULES for the South Cerney Flower Show being held on Saturday, August 6 to Sunday, August 7 are now available from the Post Office in Clarks Hay.
  • THE AGM of the village hall management committee was held last week. It was reported that we have had a most successful year for bookings with the highest income ever recorded. All the executive officers were re-elected.
  • IT HAS been noticed that the phone number given in the village directory for booking the village hall is incorrect. For all enquiries please call 07724 515200.
  • SOUTH Cerney Art Group will be holding their 50th annual art exhibition and sale of work in the village hall on Saturday, May 28, Sunday, May 29 and Bank Holiday Monday, May 30. Many original paintings, plus cards etc, are for sale. Doors open from 10am-4pm Saturday and Sunday and from 10am-6pm on Monday. Refreshments will be sold only on the Monday. Entry still only 25p for adults and accompanied children under 14 free.
  • THE South Cerney Street Fair and Festival has attracted bookings from over 100 stallholders which, with the other attractions, will make this year’s event probably the biggest ever. Sales of tickets for the three evening dances are going well with the Saturday evening event sold out. Tickets are still available for the Friday, May 27 dance when Sound and the Sirens plus an Elvis tribute will be the attractions.   • THE Bank Holiday cycling events take place on May 29 from 9am to 11.30am with free children’s cycle skills at the Upper Up playing field. The Elite Women’s Race starts at noon in Silver Street outside Atkyns Manor as does the Villager’s Race at 2.15pm. The final race will be the Elite Men’s Race which starts at 3.30pm. 
  • THE South Cerney Players production Darkness Falls is a double bill of supernatural tales. These will be staged in the Hall on Thursday, May 19 to Saturday, May 21 at 7.30pm. Tickets at £7 (Senior citizens £5 Thursday only) from the Post Office or from tick etsource.co.uk/southcerney players (booking fee extra).

  • SONGS of Praise takes place at St. Peter’s Church on Sunday, May 8, starting at 6pm.
  • MEMBERS of Siddington Art Group invite you to join them for a taster of what they do on Monday, May 9 between 10.15am and noon in the Elizabeth Way Community Room. Refreshments will be served and students will be showing their latest projects. This friendly group is looking for new members and would be pleased to welcome anyone with an interest in expressing themselves through art. You don’t have to be an accomplished artist to join, as a teacher is on hand to give advice.
  • THE Evergreens meet on Tuesday, May 10 at 2.30pm in the Elizabeth Way Community Room. The speaker this month is Heather from Senior Care Services. As usual there will also be refreshments and a fun raffle.
  • THE Parish Council AGM takes place on Tuesday, May 10 in the Village Hall Committee Room, starting at 7.30pm. Residents are welcome to attend.

  • THE annual Gardening Club Plant Sale will be held this Saturday, May 7 from 10.30am to 11.30am at the Village Hall.
  • SUNDAY, May 8. There will be an All Age Service at 10am at All Saints' Church, followed by Choral Evensong at Ampney Crucis with the Dodecantus Choir.
  • THE pupils at Down Ampney C of E Primary School made HM the Queen birthday cards to mark her 90th birthday, which were sent to her at Buckingham Palace.
  • THIRTY bags of rubbish were collected by volunteer litter pickers who went far and wide through the village on Sunday, April 17. Thank you to the volunteers and to councillor Job for organising the Clean up the Cotswolds event for the village.
  • TONY Hicks. Marjorie and family would like to thank all those who sent cards, helped with the Village Hall, the ladies who prepared the refreshments and all who attended Tony's funeral service. It was very much appreciated.
