RESIDENTS will be going to the polls to vote for a new Gloucestershire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) tomorrow.
The election takes place on Thursday, May 5, and Cotswold District Council (CDC) is reminding residents that their vote is important and that they should make sure they are fully prepared for the election.
It is particularly important for those voting by post to fill in their ballot papers privately and return them as soon as possible.
Over 67,000 people are eligible to vote in the Cotswolds. The PCC election in 2012 saw a turnout of 19.7% in the district.
Sarah Dalby, electoral services manager at CDC, said: “This is your opportunity to choose the local PCC who you think will be the best choice to oversee policing matters in the county.
"You must vote to ensure your views are represented, so please go out and vote on May 5.
"We’ve been made aware of a Facebook thread saying that you need to re-register to vote in June’s EU Referendum and we’re keen to get the word out there that this is not the case!
"Anyone who is already registered to vote next week will also be registered to vote at the EU Referendum, and eligible electors will be able to cast their vote.”
