GOLFERS are being invited to ‘club together’ for the fourth annual Gloucestershire Pairs Challenge at Cirencester Golf Club on May 20 to raise funds for Parkinson's UK.

The organisers hope to beat the £1,578 raised last year to support people living with Parkinson’s in the county.

David Paul, event organiser, said: “This is the fourth year we have held the pairs challenge and to date we’ve raised more than £5,000 for Parkinson’s UK.

This year we hope even more enthusiastic players take part, including players who are living with Parkinson’s or have similar health conditions.

“As someone living with Parkinson’s, I understand the need to keep active in order to minimise muscle stiffness. I decided to go back to playing golf as it keeps me active and helps my balance and coordination. It’s become more difficult now but I am pleased that I can still help out by fundraising.

“We’ve had some great support from local companies and individuals donating raffle prizes, sponsoring the event, and offering competition prizes, which include the best teams – male, female, mixed, and person with Parkinson’s – and prizes for the nearest the pin and longest drive.”

Sarah Wakeman, regional fundraiser at Parkinson’s UK, said: “We hope as many golfers as possible join David Paul and us for the clubbing together event to make it a fun day to remember.

“It is thanks to the generosity of people like David that we can continue our work to find a cure and improve the quality of life for people affected by Parkinson’s.”

Entry is £75 per pair, which includes coffee and a two-course meal.
