  • THE Boundary Walk will take place on Sunday, May 8 starting from Kempsford Church at 10.30am. Join us to walk the bounds of the parish of Kempsford, Whelford, Dunfield and Dudgrove, on paths mostly not normally accessible to the public. Everyone is welcome.
  • A VOLUNTEER is required to deliver the monthly Parish Newsletter to the new houses between Top Road and High Street. Perhaps someone who lives there might be prepared to take this on, if so please contact the parish clerk for more information.
  • THE Cotswold Water Park Dawn Chorus walk at Whelford Pools will take place between 4.30am and 6.30am on Sunday, May 1. This is a walk around the Reserve and adjacent lakes to listen to the dawn chorus, learning various bird calls and having a look at Heronry

  • CHURCH services for Sunday, May 1 are Holy Communion at 9am at Whelford, led by Curwen Rawlinson, and at Kempsford at 10am led by Rev Lynn Hayler.

  • FAIRFORD Town Football Club organised a match to raise money for CALM (Swindon), who have helped U16 goalkeeper, Declan Lehmann’s battle against cancer. Declan, who recently had the all-clear following chemotherapy, was at the match to help raise awareness for the charity. The match, officiated by Dan Cobbett, who also donated his match fee to the charity, ended in a 2-2 draw.
  • TALENTED conductor, Marysia Gorska, originally from Poland, took over the baton of the Fairford & District Choral Society in January. Her first concert will be Handel’s Messiah accompanied by the Corelli Ensemble on Sunday, May 1 at  7.30pm at St Mary’s, Fairford. Tickets £15 or £5 for under 18s and are available from Blenheim Antiques on 01285 712094 or visit fairford.org/choralsociety. And, if you would like to join the choir at any time, new singers are always welcome. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings.
  • THE JAM (Jesus and Me) Club is on Sunday, May 1 at 10am in St Mary’s Church, Fairford. Stories, craft and fun.

  • THE Knit and Knatter Group is on Tuesday, May 3 between 2.30-4.30pm in Fairford Library. A free group for people of all ages and abilities, who want to do some knitting or crocheting and have a chat with old and new friends with tea and coffee. Children welcome, just turn up or phone Ann on 01285 712560.
  • AT THE April meeting of the Fairford WI, existing members welcomed new members and four visitors. There was an excellent talk on Gardening with Herbs by Paul Gray. Members also enjoyed a bring-and-buy sale in aid of the Associated Country Women of the World. The next meeting of the Fairford WI is on Wednesday, May 4 at 7.30pm in the Palmer Hall.   • THE K’Roaky Beans present an Evening with Steven Lewis-Evans “The Singing Psychic of Swansea” on Wednesday, May 4 at Quenington Village Hall. An evening of songs, psychic interactions, laughter and fun. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Pay bar.   • MINI Praise at 1.45pm at St Mary’s Church, Fairford on the 1st Thursday of every month for pre-schoolers and their carers. The next session is on Thursday, May 5.
  • FAIRFORD Art Society’s meeting is on Thursday, May 5 starting at 7.30pm in Fairford Community Centre. The topic is Successful Picture Framing.   • THE Lechlade WI will meet next Tuesday, May 3 in the Memorial Hall for a talk from the Great Western Air Ambulance. Refreshments will be served at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Visitors are always made welcome. For information contact 01367 252362 or 01367 252593.
  • THE police will visit Lechlade to chat to residents if they have any concerns on Tuesday, May 3 from 1pm-2pm. They will be at the rear of the pavilion at the usual place.
  • THE St Lawrence Church restoration committee is delighted to welcome Solo Cellist, Guy Fishman from USA to play at Serenade and Sandwiches. He will perform 2 Bach Suites on Friday, May 20 at 12pm in St Lawrence Church, Lechlade. Entrance, wine and light refreshments free but donations sought in aid of St Lawrence Church, Lechlade restoration appeal.
  • LOCAL band Redwing are joining forces with their friends the wonderful Clive Collective from Marlborough to present an evening of music in Lechlade Memorial Hall in aid of Brighter Futures, a very appropriate local worthy cause: brighterfuturesgwh.nhs.uk. Brighter Futures is the charity for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which includes Great Western Hospital in Swindon. The charity works to improve the hospital environment, fund ground breaking research, support the development and training of hospital staff and provide state of the art equipment in order to provide that extra special level of care. There are some tickets still available for this special gig on Saturday, May 21. Every member of the two bands has sent out invitations to their friends and families but we would love to see some other local people there too. There will be a paying bar.
