  • LECHLADE History Society’s next meeting is on Monday, April 18 at 7.15pm for 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall. John Loosley will be talking on the history of Gloucestershire Almshouses. John is a historian from Stroud, founder of the Oakridge History Society and also secretary to the committee for archaeology in Gloucestershire. Guests welcome £4, contact Alan Garnell 01367 253087 or visit lechladehistory.co.uk.
  • THE Lady in the Van, cert 12A, will be the film on offer at the Lechlade community cinema next Sunday, April 17. It will be shown in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm. Lechlade Memorial Hall has a large 5m wide screen. Doors open at 7pm for refreshments. Funds raised are used to support local organisations/charities. Last month was nearly a sell out, to reserve a seat contact the organiser on 01367 253633, tickets cost £3.
  • LECHLADE & District Lions Club is holding its annual charity auction and book sale on Saturday, April 16 at the Memorial Hall, Lechlade. Doors open at midday, with the auction commencing at 1pm with a registration fee of £1. There is also a book sale at 11am with an admission fee of 50p. For further details of both events please phone 01367 252023/252458 or log onto lechladelions.org.uk. This year the auction is sponsored by Row Electrical, The Old Dairy, Back Lane.
  • POLICE will be at the rear of the pavilion on Sunday, April 17 from 5pm-6pm if you would like to discuss any issues of concern.
  • THE Lechlade Gardening Club has two coach trip organised which are open to non-members. The first is the Malvern Spring Garden show on Saturday, May 7. The coach leaves Lechlade at 8.30am and returns at around 5.30pm. Tickets are £30 aper person to include travel and show entry fee, to book call 01367 252242. The second trip is to Hampshire Gardens on Wednesday, June 15. The coach departs at 9am, arriving home at about 6pm. The first stop is Houghton Lodge, one of the best privately owned gardens in England. The second stop is at Sir Harold Hillier gardens with one of the longest summer borders in Europe and has 13 national plant collections. Again, tickets are £30 to include travel and entry to both gardens, driver’s tip and tea/coffee and cake at Houghton Lodge.   • THE Kempsford village hall cafe is on again today between 12noon-2pm. Come and chat with old friends and make new ones in a friendly atmosphere helped by homemade soups and breads, cakes, coffee etc.
  • WHELFORD Social Club has live music on Saturday, April 16 from 8pm. There is also regular bingo on Wednesdays and Sundays
  • THE Parish Council is preparing a Community Emergency Plan to provide an indication of what local skills could be called upon in the event of an emergency, prior to the arrival of the Emergency Services. For full details of how you could help with this process, see the April edition of the Parish Newsletter.
