  • AT OAKSEY Cricket Club’s recent annual general meeting, Andrew Burgess stood down as chairman, after four years of service. Arun Desai was elected as new chairman, Derek Boulton as treasurer, Mark Nicholls as club welfare officer, Ken Lane as club and Saturday captain, Dan Bye as Sunday captain and Dan Horton as T20. The club is still looking for a secretary. If you would like to volunteer for this position contact Arun on 01666 577592.

  • THIS Sunday at 9.30am in All Saints Church, Kemble, there will be a morning prayer service followed by the annual parochial church meeting. At 11am in Poole Keynes, Morning Prayer and in Somerford Keynes, morning prayer followed by the annual parochial church meeting. 
  • KEMBLE village hall rural cinema presentation on Monday evening will be The Lady in the Van starring Maggie Smith. Doors open at 7.30pm for refreshments with the film commencing at 8pm. The draw for this month’s 200 club will take place during the evening. 
  • KEMBLE and Ewen Women's Institute welcomes members, friends and visitors to its meeting on Tuesday when a representative from Neal's Yard will be speaking on the benefits of using the goods and also why they took up being involved with promoting the products. Light refreshments will be served. 
  • RING Margaret on 770639 if you would like more information about the North Wiltshire village's flower club. This month's demonstrator Margaret Murray comes from Bradford on Avon and her floral arrangements will take the form of inspirations. The meeting will take place in Crudwell village hall on Wednesday, 7pm for 7.30pm. 
  • NEXT Thursday, Her Majesty the Queen will celebrate her 90th birthday and a celebratory beacon will be lit at Windsor Castle. Poole Keynes, Kemble and Ewen have arranged events to mark this unique occasion. All residents of Poole Keynes are invited to celebrate at Poole Keynes village hall. The celebration will start at 7pm with bring and share puddings followed by the lighting of a beacon and fireworks in the field opposite. There will be a children’s fancy dress competition, toasts to Her Majesty and birthday cake. The bar will be open for beer, wine and fizz, tea and coffee and soft drinks. Donations on the night towards the cost of the fireworks please. Villagers from Kemble and Ewen, family and friends are warmly invited to the field opposite the Tavern when a beacon/bonfire will be lit at 8.30pm. Before that please gather in the pub and bring along any loose change as John Griffin has created a crown to be covered ‘heads-up’ with coins. This together with a raffle will be drawn on the night. Money raised will go towards the costs of royal souvenirs for the children to receive at the royal tea party afternoon on Sunday, May 15.
  • ON MONDAY Ann and Phil Basford, the hosts of the Tavern Pub, will be handing over the reins and moving onto pastures new, another Arkells pub in Liddington near Swindon. A local couple will step into their shoes for a three month trial. We send our good wishes to Ann and Phil as they move on and to Dan and his partner on their new venture.
