A CARE home in Fairford has been granted planning permission by Cotswold District Council to increase its capacity by more than 30 rooms.

Hyperion House, on London Street, can now extend its number of beds from 45 to 67, with the addition of 31 new rooms, while the existing rooms will be refurbished to match the standard of the additional ones.

Tanya Shukla, director of Diva Care Ltd, which owns Hyperion House, was delighted with the news. She said: “Most rooms will be single, however, some will also be shared as quite a few residents prefer this. This is a big step towards building a grand purpose built home closely knit to the community.

“We recently refurbished our lounge and built a new family liaison room as part of our ongoing commitment to improve our services for our users.

The care home, registered to offer both residential and nursing care for the elderly, first opened its doors to residents in 1994 having previously been a Country House Hotel, and is situated within easy access to the town’s central services.

In order to facilitate the extension, according to the planning application, it is proposed to demolish the existing flat-roofed, single storey extension housing the kitchen and dining room along with the large conservatory fronting London Street.

A spokesman for Fairford Town Council said it had had no objection to the application when it came to the town planning committee.
