Artist highlights recycling debate

AN ARTIST living near Cirencester has won a competition designed to highlight the importance of recycling.

Margaret Sadler, who recently moved to Preston from Suffolk, has won the first Cotswold Show RejuvenArt competition with a "unique and interactive piece" titled There's a (W)hole in my Bucket'.

Cotswold District Council and the Cotswold Show invited artists to enter the competition to highlight the importance of recycling.

To enter artists had to design a piece of art or sculpture using only recyclable materials found in local residents' recycling boxes and district recycling banks.

There's a (W)hole in my Bucket' is a see-saw with two empty buckets, one attached to each end. Put household recyclable rubbish into a bucket and the see-saw will swing to reveal images showing the effects that recycling, or not recycling have on the planet.

"Recycling is an issue very close to my heart," said Margaret, "so I'm absolutely thrilled to have won this competition and am really looking forward to seeing the finished piece in situ at the museum."

The winning piece will take prime position at the Corinium Museum, while at the Cotswold Show in Cirencester Park on July 7-8 the council will be giving out useful information on recycling and composting.
