A REPORT produced by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabularies has given Gloucestershire police an overall result of ‘good’.

Published today, the ‘Police Legitimacy’ report grades police forces on issues relating to ethics and engagement with the public.

Forces are ranked on three separate areas: staff wellbeing and ethical culture, public engagement, and stop and search and taser.

Gloucestershire received a 'good' rating - the second highest of four rankings - for staff wellbeing and ethical culture and public engagement, but 'requires improvement' for stop and search.

Deputy chief constable of Gloucestershire police Rod Hansen said his force was particularly pleased with several things that appeared within the report.

He said: “One result we’re pleased with in the report says we put the public at the heart of our service and that they get a good service.

“We were also recognised for our good work engaging with the public and our use of tasers.”

On the grade of ‘requires improvement’ - the third ranking - for the force's use of stop and search, DCC Hansen said that, in accordance with recommendations outlined in the report, the force had already initiated an action plan to bring the service up to scratch.
