  • THE annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Races will take place in Church Lane next Tuesday, February 9, starting at 3.30pm.

After races for all age groups there will be the presentation of prizes and refreshments in All Hallows.

Everyone is invited to this enjoyable event.

  • THE previous evening RWay, the South Cerney Youth Club, will be practicing their pancake-making skills as well as taking part in a Giant Jenga session and experiencing impaired-vision goggles.

The club is now run by Young Gloucestershire leaders, assisted by Jasmin Tresadern and meets in the Scout HQ in Berkeley Close every Monday from 4-6.30pm and is open to all youngsters aged between eight and 14.

Sessions cost £1 and any youngster can turn up on the evening.

  • SOUTH Cerney Gardening Club meets in the village hall this evening at 7.30pm when Jenny Bailey will speak on Industrial Sites as Gardens.

The club welcomes new members and with annual membership costing only £15 it is great value.

  • THE next meeting of Thursday Group is on February 11, in the village hall at 8pm when the ladies will listen to a talk on Hats by Heather, a change to the previously advertised speaker who will be visiting the group the following month.
  • THE temporary pumping scheme set up by Thames Water at the entrance to The Limes in Station Road is still working but it certainly has prevented any re-occurrence of the overloading of the sewers we experienced in the previous flooding periods of two years ago.

Despite the effectiveness of the scheme it is understood that there have been complaints from a few members of the public.

It is hoped that Thames Water will find a way to improve the permanent drainage system thus avoiding the need for the pumps to be used in future years.

  • SOUTH Cerney Branch Royal British Legion is holding a fundraising quiz night on Saturday, February 20, in the village hall starting at 7pm. Teams of four players preferred.

The cost per person of £7.50 includes a light supper but please bring your own drinks – glasses will be provided.

  • AFTER a break over the new year the mobile pizza wagon will be returning to Clarks Hay every Friday evening from 5.30-8.30pm with its good selection of toppings all cooked on a wood stove.
  • THE South Cerney Scout group needs help with running the Beaver section, a group of youngsters aged six to eight-years-old.
