A COMMUNITY care home specialising in dementia care will make its first stumbling steps toward life with a foundation stone laying ceremony.

Local dignitaries will be descending on the new modern facility in South Cerney on January 26, including Gloucestershire County Council cabinet member Dorcas Binns and director of adult social care Margaret Wilcox, OBE.

The foundation stone for the Order of St John Care Trust home is set to be laid at 10.30am.

The 64-bed Lakes Care Centre will be finished in early 2017 and will include two floors to provide residential and specialist dementia care.

The home will comprise four 16-bed households, each complete with its own kitchen and communal living space. Linking the two households on the ground floor will be a central area that will feature a tea room, hair-salon and a garden lounge.

Landscaped gardens will also be accessible from each of the ground floor households, along with a communal garden that will be accessible from the garden lounge.

The home is being built by Stepnell Ltd in partnership with The Orders of St John Care Trust, which will provide the care in the new home.
