POLICE are warning business in the Cotswolds to be on their guard after a man tried to scam cash at Costa Coffee in Cirencester.

It is alleged that on Monday, December 21 the man entered the coffee shop inside the Waterstones in Cricklade Street and tried to bamboozle a cashier into giving him money as he was paying for food.

But the staff member realised that the man was trying to scam them and did not hand over any cash.

Sergeant Garrett Gloyn of Cirencester Police Station said: “This type of person is a bit of a travelling criminal who might not be local to the Cotswolds and tries this theft at a number of retail outlets before moving on to another town. If they get £20 from each one then they have had a good day.”

The man can be seen attempting the scam in the CCTV image (pictured), If you recognise him or know anything about the incident then call police on 101.
