THREE eagle-eyed treasure hunters are feeling flush after scooping the first coins in Tetbury’s treasure hunt bonanza.

The discerning detectives were taking part in Café 53’s Christmas event which has residents and tourists racking their brains to solve riddles in order to find treasure.

On offer are a number of Victorian silver crown coins valued conservatively at around £30 each.

Café owner David Nicholls put on the event to celebrate the Long Street café’s 10th birthday.

Two coins have already been found after the hunt began on Saturday, December 5.

Katie Selwood, from Tetbury, and her New Zealand friend Laura Horton were quick to work out the first riddle: “always getting into mischief - you'd be Baahmy not to join the fun!” which led them to the new Shaun the Sheep model outside Fillys on Church Street.

David said: “Many people cracked the clue but were unable to find the coin – although it was hidden in full view of Shaun.”

The next brain teaser quizzed: "A small listed building demolished to keep sinkhole."

David said: “Many people felt the clue was leading them to a hotel, as this could have been one of the five letter words derived from the anagram, however, they were not sure which one. This treasure was unearthed by Katie Johnson on Sunday evening.”

Now the budding Sherlocks have been given an even harder riddle (pictured).

David said: “To solve this baffling cipher you will need to put yourself in the shoes of Professor Robert Langdon from Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code. Solving the enigmatic riddle will lead you to the third silver crown.”

The next coin - in the form of a token that can be exchanged in the café - will be hidden on Friday, December 11.

Café 53’s grand finale will be a hunt for a gold sovereign, worth upwards of £200, between Boxing Day and New Year.
